Hematopoietic Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation Program |
|
Located at Holtz Children’s Hospital, the Foundation for the Accreditation for Cellular Therapy (F.A.C.T.) accredited Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation program is the only university-based transplant program in South Florida. The program is lead by highly trained and specialized pediatric bone marrow transplant doctors: Martin Andreansky, M.D., Ph.D., Julio Barredo, M.D., and Gary Kleiner, M.D., Ph.D. Under their supervision nurse practitioners, coordinators, and nurse specialists are able to provide a transplant for any condition that requires this treatment. If a family donor is available, allogeneic related donor transplants or haploidentical donor transplants are available as treatment options. Unfortunately, for about two thirds of children in need of a stem cell transplant, a family donor is not available. These patients are treated with unrelated donor or umbilical cord blood transplants. Furthermore, as a FACT accredited institution, we are able to offer transplant patients access to the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN) and Children’s Oncology Group (COG) for clinical trials that involve bone marrow transplant.
