About the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine
UM pediatric emergency physicians treat the full range of emergent, urgent and subacute conditions requiring medical or surgical attention. The emergency services they provide include the care of minor-to-moderate trauma and injuries, formerly premature infants, sickle cell patients, pre- and post-organ and bone marrow transplant patients, and patients with asthma, chronic lung diseases, congenital heart disease, chronic renal disease and seizures, as well as many other acute and chronic conditions.
All full-time physicians are fellowship trained and/or board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and have extensive experience in the specialty. The staff is multilingual in order to serve a large international patient population from the Caribbean, South American and Central America. They also provide telephone consultation for pediatric patients on board Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ships. The entire PED staff is committed to family-friendly, compassionate care for children and their families.
All UM pediatric emergency physicians are credentialed to perform a variety of life- and limb-saving procedures required on these patients. Consultation by pediatric subspecialists is available around the clock, including pediatric surgeons, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, pediatric neurosurgeons, pediatric otolaryngologists, pediatric maxillofacial and oral surgeons and trauma surgeons from the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The UM pediatric emergency physicians see patients in the pediatric-only Emergency Department at Holtz Children's Hospital at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
