About the Division of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics

Specialists in the Division of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics treat children and adolescents with developmental delays and disabilities. These include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD), mental retardation, autism, dyslexia and learning disabilities. However, the broader category encompasses conditions that result in substantial functional limitation in three or more of the following areas: self care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, self direction, capacity for independent living, and economic self-sufficiency. Patients with developmental delays and disabilities require individualized plans that combine special, interdisciplinary, or genetic services, support, or other assistance that UM specialists are uniquely qualified to provide.

The staff draws on sophisticated psychological and neuropsychological tests offered in Spanish or English to assess the degree of disability.  An interdisciplinary team approach is used to help the child maximize his or her development and corresponding social skills.

The Division of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics is located at the Mailman Center for Child Development, a world-class center dedicated to children with developmental delays and disabilities.
