About the Division of General Pediatric Surgery

Highly trained, board-certified pediatric surgeons at the University of Miami School of Medicine perform more than 1,800 procedures each year. Parents can rest assured that their child is being treated by one of the most experienced and skilled pediatric teams in the country.

Whenever possible, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery is performed. The technique is now preferred for removing the appendix, spleen or gallbladder; relieving pyloric stenosis causing severe vomiting in newborns; correcting severe heartburn or hernias; and managing pain from any cause.

In addition to these common problems, the surgeons have extensive experience managing complicated, severe medical conditions, including necrotizing enterocolitis, jejunal-ileal atresia, gastroschisis, intestinal volvulus, long-segment Hirschsprung’s disease and other conditions causing intestinal failure.
