About the Division of Pediatric Dermatology
UM dermatologists see more than 5,000 children each year for disorders such as acne, eczema, hair loss, vitiligo, skin cancer, and warts, as well as for rarer disorders of the skin such as epidermolysis bullosa. The division is directed by Lawrence A. Schachner, M.D., past president of the American Society for Pediatric Dermatology and editor of the textbook Pediatric Dermatology, now in its third edition.
The division offers a popular Pediatric Dermatology Laser Program in which patients with vascular birthmarks such as port-wine stains and difficult hemangiomas are treated with state-of-the-art pulse-dye laser therapy. Treatment can be done on an outpatient basis, and when necessary, with anesthesia.
