James D. Wilkinson, M.D., M.P.H. is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He received both his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and his medical doctorate from the University of South Florida, and his Master of Public Health from the University of Miami. He completed a pediatric residency at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y. and a post-doctoral fellowship in Pediatric Intensive Care and Anesthesiology at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D. C. His clinical years were primarily spent at the New York Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City followed by an appointment at the Children's National Medical Center/ George Washington University in Washington, D.C. His research at that time was focused on multiple organ failure in children and resource utilization in the intensive care unit.

 

He joined the faculty at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2000 and until recently he was Director of Graduate Programs for the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health. Dr. Wilkinson now serves as the Senior Epidemiologist for the Division of Pediatric Clinical Research. His current research interests are cardiomyopathy and heart failure in children, the epidemiology of cancer and HIV, and health effects of second-hand smoke exposure. He has significant experience in multi-site research studies in children and vulnerable populations. Dr. Wilkinson teaches both medical and graduate students and has received numerous teaching awards.
