About the Division of Neonatology

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Division of Neonatology at Holtz Children’s Hospital has one of the largest, most well-regarded, and longest established Level III neonatal units in the United States.  In fact, our neonatal program at Holtz was just ranked 23rd in the United States by US News & World Report.

As the only academic neonatal program in South Florida, our goal is to achieve excellence in all areas of academic endeavor, which encompass patient care, research and medical education.

The Division of Neonatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine consists of full-time academic neonatologists, as well as neonatologists and pediatricians who also work as attending physicians in Level II and Intermediate Care areas, the Normal Nursery and ancillary hospital nurseries. In addition, the Division of Neonatology has neonatal fellows and several research fellows in training at any given time, plus research faculty, research staff and administrative staff.

Our past and most recent experience has been characterized by continued success in both clinical and academic pursuits. The number of newborn special care admissions remains substantial and outcomes from our patients are amongst the best compared to those reported for the Nation and the state of Florida. In addition, the Division continues to be successful in its academic activities, including the obtaining of significant grant funding, the publication of numerous papers in peer-review journals, the large number of research presentations at regional and national research meetings, the invitation of division faculty members to give faculty lectureships throughout the world, and the attraction of high quality neonatal fellows.
