THE MIAMI PEDIATRIC NEPHROLOGY SEMINAR IS COMING AGAIN

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

As many of you know already, this past March we completed a very successful Seminar with over 130 attendees and excellent presentations following the format from previous years. The Jose Strauss Visiting Professorship Award was given to Robert L.Chevalier M.D. This time we are happy to invite you to attend the 39th Pediatric Nephrology Seminar which will take place from March 8-11, 2012 in beautiful Miami Beach at The Alexander All Suite Ocean Front Resort . The Miami Pediatric Nephrology Seminar is an international gathering of Pediatric and Internal Medicine Nephrologists from all over the United States and the world, sponsored by the University of Miami, Leonard Miller School of Medicine and the Holtz Children’s Hospital. This coming year we will have another exciting scientific program with a variety of topics including a total of 9 Sessions devoted to evolving concepts about developmental nephrology and genetic origins of kidney disease, renal tubular disorders affecting magnesium, phosphate and uric acid handling, biomarkers of tubular injury, cystinosis, hypertension and new developments in vascular biology, approach to evaluation and management of renovascular hypertension in the young child, new developments on bone disease, Vitamin D analogs, FGF-23 and the kidney, on-going challenges in chronic kidney disease, and the effects of systemic diseases, including sickle cell nephropathy, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and HUS on the kidney. This coming year we plan to expand a Session devoted to Fellowship Training Issues and Research Initiatives. In addition, there will be 2 separate workshops dealing with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in Dialysis and Transplantation including 3 Best Abstracts presentations by fellows. There will be one Session on clinico-pathologic correlations. Also, 2 special State of the Art presentations will cover New Mechanisms of Progressive Kidney Disease and Transplantation Update 2012. A large number of Guest (20) and Local faculty (13) will provide expertise and cordial exchanges including several panel discussions and Meet the Professor Luncheons.

In order to facilitate attendance by physicians in training and young faculty we plan to provide a limited number of Partial Travel Grants (Applications must be received prior to December 31, 2011). Fellows planning to participate in the Abstract presentation for the Transplant Session should submit their Abstracts by the same deadline.
