Hand-Stitched Support for Babies Born to HIV-infected Mothers

Thanks to a generous donation, babies born to HIV-infected mothers will now be wrapped in an extra layer of warmth and comfort. The babies and their parents received close to 50 cozy, hand-knit blankets, booties, hats, and mittens recently from the members of the Supreme Council of America Inc. Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons and Supreme Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

$3 Million NIH Grant Will Fund Genetic Hearing Loss Research

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology received a $3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to fund research related to biological treatments and clinical diagnosis of patients with hearing loss. Xue Zhong Liu, M.D., Ph.D., professor of otolaryngology, human genetics, biochemistry, and pediatrics will serve as principal investigator.

Dean Ford Hosts First ‘Meet and Greet’ Session

Moriane Joseph, ARNP, was excited to say hello to Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A., the recently appointed dean of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. “I have the greatest respect for his recovery work in Haiti after the terrible 2010 earthquake,” said Joseph, a nurse practitioner in the Division of Gastroenterology. “I am also of Haitian descent, and it is an honor to welcome him to our school.”
