Nutrition/Dietetics Training Program

Contact: Stephanie Hacker

The nutrition training program at the Mailman Center provides training to nutrition students with an interest in pediatric nutrition. The training program focuses on nutritionally complex patients with inborn errors of metabolism and patients with gastrointestinal concerns. Through the training program students will assess the nutrition of patients, create nutrition programs using specialized medical foods, and educate patients and their families about nutrition management of their conditions. Students also learn about public health programs and community resources, such as Newborn Screening and Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) and have the opportunity to participate in research.

The nutrition training program at the Mailman Center training program can benefit undergraduate and graduate nutrition students looking to gain clinical experience. It can also serve as an elective rotation for a Dietetic Internship, if an affiliation agreement is in place with the University of Miami.

Like all trainees at the Mailman Center, graduate students participate in the LEND (Leadership Development in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) curriculum, a federally funded interprofessional training program based on family professional partnerships.
