The Debbie School : Education & Services

The Children’s Trust Summer Camp

Since 2004, the University of Miami Debbie School has received Grant Awards from The Children’s Trust to support summer services. The Children’s Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.

The Debbie School’s “Little Explorers” Summer Program will provide a unique educational adventure for participating children and their families. Teachers and therapists with experience and expertise will collaborate to help children with developmental disabilities become active participants in the educational process with their typically developing peers. Daily activities will incorporate the “Little Explorers” theme. Goals and objectives identified on the Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan will target the following domains: communication, cognition, fine motor, gross motor, socialization, and self-help. Activity themes will focus on exploring literacy, music, and art. Family education and participation activities will interface with the educational curriculum.

Our parents and staff greatly appreciate the Grant Award from The Children’s Trust. It is only through this grant that the University of Miami Debbie School is able to provide our “Little Explorers” Summer Program that will help our students retain previously learned skills as well as learn new skills through enjoyable and challenging activities.
