Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a special unit located at Holtz Children’s Hospital. In the CICU care is given to infants, children and young adults undergoing treatment for a variety of heart conditions. Located adjacent to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the CICU is staffed by a medical team trained in providing intensive care and cardiac specialty services. The CICU not only provides the best medical care for sick children, but it also accommodates the needs of families and loved ones who are caring for them. The unit has private, comfortable rooms where parents or guardians are welcome to stay with their children, allowing them to play an active role in their treatment and recovery. The CICU is equipped with:

  • State-of-the-art monitoring equipment
  • Two brand new operating rooms, specifically designed for pediatric cardiac surgeries
  • Catheterization lab, specifically designed for pediatric patients

This unique and centralized care environment will optimize daily interactions and care for our patients and their families. Our family-centered spaces include:

  • Recreational areas
  • Quiet room for parents to talk or discuss treatment options with their physicians
  • Computer lab
  • Shower facilities

A dedicated Prenatal/Pediatric Transport Team provides service for transfer of patients in need of urgent care to Holtz Children’s Hospital. The team is composed of physicians, nurses and respiratory technicians specifically trained to care for the sickest of patients in need of safe and rapid transportation to Holtz. Patients from within the United States, Central and South America are routinely transported by ground, fixed wing or helicopter when needed. Transport can be arranged by calling 1-866-KID-HART.
